Foundations of Meditation: a beginning meditation program

What exactly is meditation from the perspective of the Yoga tradition? Does meditation seem intimidating? Are you supposed to just sit there not thinking? Why do we struggle to implement a meditation practice? What are the benefits of this millennia-old practice?

To explore the answers to these questions, Join Yoga educator and Ayurvedic Practitioner, Kara Aubin, for this 4-week introduction to the art and science of meditation. Each weekly session will include the theory and science behind a particular aspect of meditation, and the practical application of the theory in an accessible and profound meditative practice.
This semester class will explore:
aspects of mind, and how breath and meditation create a friendlier mind
how breath and prana (life force) shape your meditation
options for supportive, pain-free meditation postures
props to use that can keep you more comfortable
how to choose a meditation technique
why practice surfing on a meditation app is actually limiting your meditation
You’ll learn techniques to help you quiet and calm the overactive thinking/analytical mind, while opening up an inner realm of steadiness and calm that many of us miss, most of the time.
who is this course for?
Foundations of Meditation is systematic approach to the vast science of Ayurveda that will assist you in creating a personal relationship with these practices. This course is appropriate for new meditators, those who have experience with guided practice, and those who want to understand meditation through the lens of Yoga. Yoga students will enjoy this next level of deepening into practice.

In addition to the in-person or livestream classes, you’ll also have access to on-demand recordings, a community component to support your practice, a course ebook, and you’ll receive four guided practice recordings that you can work with during this semester and beyond.
Upon completion of the semester you’ll have a collection of meditations that you’ll feel confident and comfortable with for home practice.

Kara Aubin is the founder of the Ayurvedic Wellness Center. She is an Ayurvedic Practitioner, Yoga educator, Herbalist, and Holistic Health Coach based in Kalamazoo, MI. With 20+ years of experience and training in the sciences of Yoga & Ayurveda with master teachers, Kara weaves the teachings of Yoga, Ayurveda, and holistic living into her clinical practice, group classes, courses, and trainings to share radical wellness with you.
