spring cleanse: rice porridge breakfast

cleanse-worthy rice porridge

cleanse-worthy rice porridge

I've just finished my ayurvedic Spring Cleanse, and I'm feeling really good. Lighter, brighter, digesting better, more energy - all the things you hope for on the other side of a cleanse.

This is the recipe I used for breakfast during the cleanse, and I am still eating it. The spices support digestion and agni. After eating it I feel nourished and satiated until lunch. Give it a try and let me know what you think.

Rice Porridge Breakfast

1 cup basmati rice
3 ½ cups water
½  TBS ghee
½ tsp brown mustard seeds
½ tsp cumin seeds
1 tsp Himalayan mineral salt
¼  tsp fresh ground black pepper

Wash rice thoroughly. Sauté the mustard and cumin seeds for a few moments in the ghee until the aroma starts to come out and then add the rice and mix these ingredients very well. Add the salt and water. Bring this to a boil and boil for 2-3 minutes. Turn down the heat to very low and cover. For stickier rice leave the lid ajar, for drier rice keep the lid on tight. Cook until the rice is tender-15-20 minutes. Recipe makes approximately 3-4 servings.
