Beginning Birding: Preparing for Winter Birding
w. Seth Chapman

Join Seth Chapman, Apothecary Coordinator and experienced birder, on a birdwatching hike through Kleinstuck Preserve.

On our final hike of 2023, we will learn about the winter birds of Kalamazoo County, as well as what we can do as birders to stay engaged during the winter months.

Before our hike, we will hold a discussion and attempt to answer questions such as:

  • What species of birds can I expect to observe in the winter?

  • What’s the best way to go birding in the winter?

  • What can I do to engage in birding when the weather isn’t favorable?

Following our discussion, we take to the trails of Kleinstuck. We will attune to our surroundings, looking and listening to the many species of birds which grace our presence. What can we learn by observing our feathered fiends? In contemplation, we will deepen our understanding of ourselves, and the environment around us.

Come to hike in community, sharpen your identification skills, build your life list, and expand your bird knowledge!

All skill levels welcome. Birders 10 and under are welcome to attend free of charge. Registration covers one adult, and individual registrations are not shareable between two or more individuals.
