ojas orbs: an ayurvedic sweet treat
Ojas is one of the three subtle essences. The subtle substance acts like our vital reserves, it’s a factor in our immune response, keeps us bolstered in times when we run ourselves down, and impacts our longevity. There are certain substances (foods, beverages, and herbs) that support the production of adequate and healthy ojas in the body. These sweet treats are ojas building in nature, and delicious too. They pair well with a hot cup of our Āyurvedic or Āyur-herbal chai.
Ingredients:
1 cup almonds, soaked and peeled
8 Medjool dates, pitted and diced
¼ cup raisins
4 tsp sweet spice
1 tsp asvagandha (optional)
1 ½ tsp cacao nibs
1 TBS nut butter (tahini, almond, peanut, etc)
Rose petals and toasted, shredded coconut for dusting (optional)
Method:
Blend almonds, dates, spices, and nut butter in food processor.
Check texture by hand rolling a ball. Mixture should be moist enough to hold together when rolled into a ball. If needed add additional dates.
Before rolling the remaining balls, hand-stir in the raisins and cacao nibs.
Toast the coconut.
Roll finished balls in toasted coconut, then dust with dried rose petals.
Refrigerate to store. Enjoy!
Makes about 2 dozen delicious treats.* While these sweets are tri-doshic in nature, Kapha should use sparingly as they are building in nature.
