sweet spice stewed apples
A quick and simple breakfast, perfect for cool fall mornings.
While apples eaten raw in early fall are not ideal for balancing Vata dosha, a little bit of heat and warming spices makes them a great option. Combined with the sweet quality of raisins or dates, this dish helps to whisk away excess Pitta that may have accumulated over the summer, all the while providing warmth and comfort.
Ingredients
1 TBS ghee
2 medium apples
1 TBS raisins or chopped dates
1 tsp slivered almonds
2 tsp sweet spice
¼ cup water
Method
Core the apples, then chop into bite-sized chunks.
Heat the ghee in a small saucepan, then add the apples, raisins or dates, and sweet spice.
Sauté the mixture until the apples become tender, about 5 minutes.
Add the water to the pan, and simmer.
Apples are done when most of the water has evaporated, about an additional 2-3 minutes.
Dish into a bowl and serve.
