Beginning Birding: Migration Stopovers
w. Seth Chapman
Join Seth Chapman, Apothecary Manager and experienced birder, on a birdwatching hike through Kleinstuck Preserve.
Our beloved feathered friends travel hundreds, sometimes thousands of miles, and the long journeys they undertake require a lot of energy! Areas like Kleinstuck Preserve (referred to as a "hotspot" in the bird world) offer birds a place to rest and refuel safely before continuing their journey.
This presents us with a wonderful opportunity to observe many species of birds that call southwest Michigan their home for just a few short weeks, or perhaps just a few days, as we are in the midst of spring migration. There's no knowing what birds may surprise us with their presence!
Before we venture through the woods, there will be a short discussion on the Yellow-bellied Sapsucker, as well as complimentary chai.
Following our discussion, we take to the trails of Kleinstuck. We will attune to our surroundings, looking and listening to the many species of birds which grace our presence. What can we learn by observing our feathered fiends? In contemplation, we will deepen our understanding of ourselves, and the environment around us.
Come to hike in community, sharpen your identification skills, build your life list, and expand your bird knowledge! All skill levels are welcome.
Registration covers one adult, and individual registrations are not shareable between two or more individuals. Birders 10 and under are welcome to attend free of charge. This hike will take place rain or shine.
Please bring a pair of binoculars, and a travel mug for complementary chai.
