Birding Basics: Planning a Successful Bird Hike
w. Seth Chapman

Warm up with a hot cup of chai and take delight in the birds this month at the Ayurvedic Wellness Center! Spend the morning with passionate birder Seth Chapman and learn how to strategically prepare for your next birding adventure!

Whether you are new to birding and are just beginning to observe the birds around you, or you’re seeking out that rare or elusive bird you’ve always wanted to find, thoughtful consideration given to planning your hike can make all the difference! We will discuss what tools can be used to prepare for your hike, how to locate specific bird species, as well as a discussion on gear, including types of binoculars and how to effectively use them in the field.

Upon completion of this class you will be able to thoughtfully plan your next birding trip, know how to seek out any species of bird you wish to observe, and have the knowledge and information needed to acquire adequate birding gear.

These classes are a great support for birding hikes, which takes place in Kleinstuck Preserve during the warmer months.

While not required, it is highly recommended to purchase a field guide (Golden Field Guides or The Peterson Guide are good choices) if you don’t already have one, and a birder’s journal / life list for this four part series.

This is an educational birding class held indoors at AWC. This class does not include a bird hike.
