Beginning Birding: The Nesting Birds of Kleinstuck
w. Seth Chapman
Spring is one of the most active seasons in the natural world. At Kleinstuck Preserve, resident and migratory birds are busy claiming territory, building nests, and raising their young. This hike offers a rare, unhurried look at that process in one of Kalamazoo's most beloved natural spaces.
Experienced birder Seth Chapman will lead the group through Kleinstuck's upland and swamp forest, pausing at key locations to observe nesting activity across a range of species, from woodpeckers to songbirds. Before heading out on the trail, Seth will offer a short discussion on nest-building techniques and the stages of bird parenthood, giving you a meaningful framework for everything you observe along the way.
This is a hike for anyone who wants to slow down, pay attention, and deepen their relationship with the natural world. Whether you are new to birding or a seasoned observer, Kleinstuck in spring has something to offer.
