Exploring the Chakras: The Throat Chakra (in-person or livestream)
w. Judah Gesmundo

This six-session semester will cover basic concepts and practices related to the seven chakras. According to Yoga tradition, the chakras (spinning wheels) are located in the subtle/energy body and run from the base of the spine to just above the crown of the head.

Each chakra will be covered over the six weeks of the semester. Session five begins with chakra opening exercises followed by a specific focus on Chakra Five, the Throat (Vishuddha) Chakra. Sessions include presentation content, breathwork/pranayama, asana practice, and end with savasana and meditation.

You will:

  • Increase familiarity with each chakra, its element and qualities

  • Gain knowledge of specific postures that can help open and connect with each chakra

  • Enhance your awareness of the flow of prana within the subtle body

Join Judah Gesmundo for this semester exploration, tapping into and gaining understanding of the energy of the chakras within your own body.

The Throat Chakra / Vishuddha

Vishuddha chakra is located in the throat, where head connects to body and where energy needs to flow smoothly for free and authentic self-expression. The Throat Chakra is often referred to as a “bottleneck” because the energy can get blocked in this small area. A first step in unlocking the fifth chakra is listening – to sound, words, the body, as well as thoughts, feelings, and their subtle cues. Listening requires quieting the chatter long enough to hear a deeper truth. When the energy of the Throat Chakra is balanced and flowing, it enables thoughts and feelings to be expressed openly and honestly with clarity and confidence. It is also the capacity to be an engaged, empathetic listener - supporting actively listening as well as voicing one’s truth.
