Beginning Birding: Finding Falcons (in-person)
w. Seth Chapman
The word “peregrine” means “wanderer” or “pilgrim”. Although Peregrine Falcons occur all around the world, Kalamazoo is proud to be home to a breeding pair of falcons since 2009. Observing these powerful and fast-flying birds is a sight to behold!
Join experienced birder, Seth Chapman, for an opportunity to witness the Peregrine Falcon. After this hike, you will have a deeper understanding of this species, and perhaps, a deeper understanding of yourself, as we contemplate this spectacle.
We will gather together in community, and learn all about the Peregrine Falcon; how to identify them, their various habits, and the unique characteristics that make this bird so special. After our discussion, we will venture to downtown Kalamazoo to observe a breeding pair of falcons.
All skill levels are welcome. Registration covers one adult. Birders 10 and under are welcome to attend free of charge. This hike will take place rain or shine.
Please bring a pair of binoculars and a travel mug for complementary chai.
Trail: We begin at AWC and carpool to downtown Kalamazoo, where we will ascend 100 steps up a parking garage and remain stationary for the duration of the event.
Investment: $20
