Beginning Birding: The Great Backyard Bird Count (in-person)
w. Seth Chapman

We all need a little incentive to get outside midwinter and look for birds beyond what we can see from our windows at home. Join Seth Chapman, Apothecary Manger and experienced birder, for the Great Backyard Bird Count!

The Great Backyard Bird Count is a global event that takes place over the course of four days in February, where birders from around the world submit their observations into eBird, the world’s largest biodiversity-related citizen science project.

Launched by Cornell Lab of Ornithology and National Audubon Society in 1998, the observations from this count help scientists better understand global bird populations before the annual spring migration. You’re invited to participate in this worldwide, community event project as we hike through Kleinstuck Preserve.

All skill levels are welcome. Registration covers one adult. Birders 10 and under are welcome to attend free of charge. This hike will take place rain or shine.

Please bring a pair of binoculars, and a travel mug for complementary chai.

Trail: An easy, 1.5 mile hike through a unique ecosystem, including upland forest, swamp forest, and marshland.

Investment: $15

Seth's Yoga + Ayurveda journey began over a decade ago after attending a yoga class in Kalamazoo. He is a life-long learner with a passion for nature, and an interest in learning new skills. He is now the Apothecary Coordinator here at the Ayurvedic Wellness Center.

Seth has a lifelong passion for birds, and loves sharing his enthusiasm of the bird world with those around him. His interest in birds led him to begin his life list at the age of 10. Seth also volunteers at a local nature center where he monitors nestboxes, as well as volunteers at a bird banding station.
