Beginning Birding: Nesting + Parenthood
w. Seth Chapman

Join Seth, Apothecary Coordinator and experienced birder, on a birdwatching hike through Kleinstuck Preserve.

This month's topic is nesting + parenthood. Before taking to the trails, we will have a short discussion on the nest building techniques of various species of birds, and a general discussion on the stages of development, from egg to adult.

During our exploration of Kleinstuck, we will attune to our surroundings, looking and listening to the many species of birds which grace our presence. What can we learn from their observation? What does their behavior tell us about ourselves? In contemplation, we will take note.

We will also see if an opportunity presents itself to observe nest building, or perhaps chicks in a nest, or parents caring for their chicks. The day is young, and there's so much to discover with the birds!

Whether you’re looking to expand your bird knowledge, spend time in nature, or practice your identification of birds, this hike will provide you with many opportunities to do so.

Please bring a pair of binoculars and a travel mug for complementary chai.
Hike length: 1.5 mi, easy difficulty
This hike takes place Saturday, June 10 from 8:00a-9:30a ET.

Seth's Yoga + Āyurveda journey began over a decade ago after attending a yoga class in Kalamazoo. He is a life-long learner with a passion for nature, and an interest in learning new skills. He is now the Apothecary Coordinator here at the Āyurvedic Wellness Center.

Seth has a lifelong passion for birds, and loves sharing his enthusiasm of the bird world with those around him. His interest in birds led him to begin his life list at the age of 10. Seth also volunteers at a local nature center where he monitors nestboxes, as well as volunteers at a bird banding station.
